She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Osborne Whitt and Mary Virginia Gibbs, of Virginia husband. Not long after their marriage they would be separated for almost three years while her husband served in the South Pacific. Locations include Fort Meade, Maryland, Fort Eustis Virginia, Panama Canal Zone, Blairsville, Pennsylvania, Fort Lee, Virginia, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and finally to Fort Polk, where she met her husband, “Mac”, of over 65 years, following the onset of WWII. With her father being a career soldier, the family moved many times. Her father served for over thirty years in the army as did her three brothers. McCrory was born to Howard Osborn Whitt and Mary Virginia Gibbs in Bluefield, West Virginia on 23 September 1925 although the other end of the house in which she was born was located in Bluefield, Virginia. And more than anything she absolutely adored her grandchildren. Even though preparing disparate foods, it would all arrive on the table at the same time and all hot off the stove. She delighted feeding large family groups. However, her true specialty was fried fish. Her specialty was fried foods of any type. McCrory was a housewife and an excellent cook. Iris Lee Whitt McCrory, 90, of Natchitoches, Louisiana, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 10:00 am on Decemat Blanchard - St. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.
